The ESC and ESC Scholarship Fund accepts cash donations and, in some circumstances, in-kind donations of certain kinds of capital property (such as securities). For such property, on top of the normal tax credit from the Canada Revenue Agency, the donor also benefits in not having to pay tax on capital gains on the property. Donations to the ESC Scholarship Fund can be paid either online using our PayPal donation webpage or on paper. To donate online, please follow the PayPal link above to access the ESC Scholarship Fund’s donation webpage and select the scholarship fund that you wish to donate to. Information on the specific scholarship funds that the ESC Scholarship Fund supports is listed below. On the donation webpage you will also have the option to top-up your donation to cover transaction fees that the ESC Scholarship Fund incurs through use of its PayPal account, as well as the option to make your contribution a recurring monthly donation. For those who prefer to use paper, please complete this form and send it to the Entomological Society of Canada office by mail (with cheque or money order) or by email or fax (with credit card information).

Annual Scholarship Fund/Dons aux fonds de bourse annuelle

 

The Annual Fund supports two ESC scholarship fund awards programs: Postgraduate Scholarships and Research Travel Scholarships. Postgraduate Scholarships, each of $2,000, are offered annually to assist students in study and research leading to a postgraduate degree in entomology. Research Travel Scholarships are intended to help students diversify their graduate training by assisting with travel to undertake research or coursework that cannot be done at their home institution.

 

John H. Borden Scholarship/Dons aux fonds de bourse John H. Borden

 

In honour of Dr. John H. Borden, and his prestigious contributions in the field of forest pest ecology, the ESC Scholarship Fund offers one postgraduate award of $1,000 to assist students in postgraduate programs who are studying Integrated Pest Management (IPM) with an entomological emphasis.

 

Keith Kevan Scholarship/Dons aux fonds de Bourse Keith Kevan

 

The ESC Scholarship Fund, in memory of Dr. D. Keith McE. Kevan, offers one postgraduate award of $2,000 in odd-numbered years only to assist graduate students studying systematics in entomology. The awards will be made on the basis of high scholastic achievement and excellence in insect systematics.

 

Lloyd Dosdall Scholarship Fund/Dons aux fonds de bourse Lloyd Dosdall

 

The Dr. Lloyd M. Dosdall Memorial Scholarship was created to commemorate his many contributions to crop protection, insect ecology, and aquatic entomology in Canada. Thus, the ESC Scholarship Fund offers up to two postgraduate awards annually of $1,000 each to assist students conducting research in the area of “arthropod community ecology” –including biodiversity and cross-trophic interactions among plants, herbivores and their natural enemies.

 

Danks Scholarship/Dons aux fonds de bourse Danks

 

The ESC Scholarship Fund offers two postgraduate scholarships annually of $1,500 each. The scholarships support studies on the Canadian fauna in memory of David Danks (1974-2008), reflecting the interests of David and of his father Hugh in environmental science and entomology.

 

Biological Survey of Canada Scholarship/Dons aux fonds de bourse commission biologique

 

The ESC Scholarship Fund offers one postgraduate award of $2,000 in even-numbered years only to assist students in postgraduate programs who are studying insect or terrestrial arthopod biodiversity in Canada. The award will be made on the basis of high scholastic achievement and excellence in faunistics
